PASSIVE OPTICAL LAN - NEXT GENERATION TECHNOLOGY
PearlNet provides a "green technology solution" called Passive Optical LAN that is an alternative LAN solution to copper-based systems. This next generation technology, known as Passive Optical LAN (POL), is based on proven Passive Optical Networking (PON) technology that is deployed by leading service providers around the world and provides triple play services to subscribers. POL provides enterprises with fiber optic connectivity to any Ethernet end point such as end user devices, access points and wireless controllers, application servers, and printers. POL greatly simplifies the enterprise LAN by replacing copper-based cables and devices in the traditional LAN setting with fiber optic equipment.
The POL network consists of a high density aggregation device in the main telecommunication room that delivers converged services over a Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) that extends to the desktop or cubicle and terminates at a Work Group Terminal (WGT). The WGT provides 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet connectivity to desktop equipment such as desktop computers, laptops, voice-over-IP phones, and video phones.
PearlNet's GPON solution is International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Standard-based technology and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) approved for carrying multiple services on single cabling infrastructure. It provides significant cost savings by reducing the need for power to HVAC and backup power resources by eliminating horizontal copper cabling, patch panels, and most switching equipment. A GPON network does not require Telecommunications Rooms (TR) or Cable Closets beyond the main Equipment Room or PBX Room. This LEED compliant green technology significantly reduces the need for non-renewable resources (copper, plastic sheathing) and reduction in energy requirements makes this technology very eco-friendly. For security, the Motorola GPON is US DoD JITC certified (27 Jan 11) and provides security and reliability as fiber is hard to tap, the equipment detects breaks in real-time and provides 128-bit AES encryption required for end-to-end communication. No TEMPEST shielding is required for fiber-based network and GPON has a 5 9's+ availability rating.
